Tuesday, March 13, 2018 – BOAT DAY ON THE PELICAN SKIPPER!

Circle of Tequesta (Boat Day – Family Stay & Play option) – Pelican Harbor

Travel south to the mouth of the Miami River where the Tequesta Natives lived for thousands of years and built the renowned and mysterious Miami Circle. Depending on conditions, go island hopping and scour the shoreline for nature treasures.  Be ready for it all – water shoes and clothes for water just in case!! Follow the link below to pay for the family.  You may drop off your kids that are 6 and up for regular Bayologist Homeschool Day (drop-off students max of 5 total). Or stay and play, it is a great day on the bay!  All ages welcome.  Children under 4 are no charge.  Drop-off is $35, One parent with max of two kids age 4 and up is $55, $25 per additional adult, $15 per additional child 4+.  You must read the below “particulars” before signing up.

Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves and The Nature Teacher are excited to offer a wonderful Eco Education Program – Bayologist Homeschool Days, one Tuesday a month, 10am-1pm – an experiential day of learning for your children.  This program is geared to children age 6 and up, drop the kids off for a day of play, adventure and marine study. See below for program cost and details.

*The family is invited to stay (added fee on boat days) and learn alongside your 6 and ups on *Stay & Play Boat Days and other select days.

Each Bayologist Day we will take an in-depth look at the natural science and cultural history of Biscayne Bay with a theme of study, a game and/or activity, netting and shore searching (water play only happens on planned days, with adequate supervision)(weather permitting), or a cruise on the bay aboard the Pelican Skipper (weather permitting).

Perfect for adventurous children with an interest in coastal and marine habitats.

*Stay & Play Boat Day prices are for this educational family event only, boat prices for other events are priced accordingly.


  • For children age 6 and up only. Drop-off class (unless designated Stay & Play Family Day).  Children should be comfortable around water and preferably able to swim.
  • Registration and payment in advance.
  • Refunds will not be given for cancellation or not showing up, credits will only be considered for emergencies.
  • Bayologist Days are rain or shine. Cancellations due to extreme weather are determined by the staff of BBAP and Pelican Harbor Marina.
    • Should BBAP cancel an event, a credit/raincheck will be offered.
  • Each participant must have a signed BBAP waiver per event.
  • Attending Bayologists MUST have:
    • Protective, closed-toe shoes for all participants (adults and staff included).
      • Shoes need to be worn in the water and need to be closed-toe, hard bottom…NO FLIP FLOPS or CROCS please (can be used during indoor time).
        • Old sneakers will suffice if water shoes unavailable.
    • Sun and bug protection applied before trip – eco-friendly is encouraged.
    • Clothes for wading and netting if included in day– water/swim clothes. Hats, sunglasses, sun-shirts and towels are recommended.
    • A low or no-waste lunch and/or snack (No Styrofoam allowed and plastic is discouraged, we pack out).
    • WATER
      • Eco-FILLED water bottles that can be refilled.
      • No Styrofoam allowed and plastic is discouraged.
      • We will have water to re-fill their water bottles.
  • Please have your snacks and lunch – packed and cooled (you are welcome to bring coolers) low or no waste lunches are encouraged. All waste is packed out.
  • Participants are welcome to bring along masks, snorkels, goggles, their own nets, etc. – only needed on days water activities are planned (see below).
  • BBAP will supply game and netting supplies, buckets, PFD’s, vessels and paddles.
  • The Pelican Skipper boat is managed by Miami Dade County and Pelican Harbor Marina and its use is based on availability. The boat is a 40-passenger catamaran cruiser, with shade and seating and a licensed captain.
  • PFD’s will be provided and worn by children under age 18 while on boat or kayak.
  • Swimming is only allowed at designated times with adequate supervision – provided by BBAP. Otherwise water exploration and play will be playing in shower or wading only to the knees. All children must wear provided PFD’s when on the boat or in kayaks.
